Amid the ongoing 2024 US elections with early projections telling of a Donald Trump win, X (the former Twitter) was inundated with bots either asking for support for the candidate or promising payments for likes and retweets, despite past claims from the site’s owner that the site’s bot problem has been reduced significantly.
This was no more evident than on Tuesday when voting was underway and immediately afterwards, with trending hashtags like #USElections2024, #USPresidentialElection2024, #Trump2024, #Bitcoin and #Kamala4President producing countless bots taking over user accounts and posting the same few messages repeatedly.
